This Amakusa natural stone is medium coarse and provides a covering kasumi finish. It creates fine contrasts on knives with an iron cladding, and we estimate that a comparison to a synthetic stone would be equivalent to a grit of approximately 1000. The advantage of using a natural stone is that the scratch pattern it creates is easier to remove compared to the deep scratches created by a synthetic stone. Therefore, this stone is excellent as a finishing stone in the medium segment.
