A Medium whetstone - 1000 grit

Medium grit whetstones are used for regular sharpening. About 600-2000 grit is popularly refered to as medium grit stones. This type of stone is used to form the edge and create burr. It leaves a sharp edge but the edge needs to be polished on a finer grit stone before becoming screaming sharp. 

Its almost splash and go, but its best to keep it under water for a few minutes.
