The medium-fine stone is used for everyday sharpening and for repairing minor nicks in the edge. It leaves a medium-coarse edge that needs to be polished to become shiny and sharp.

The stone provides good feedback as it is relatively soft. This means it requires a lot of water and needs to be soaked in water for about 10-15 minutes before sharpening. Because the stone is somewhat softer compared to, for example, Shapton, it relatively quickly generates "slurry" (sharpening paste) which facilitates the sharpening process, especially if you are sharpening the blade sides and want a homogeneously covering kasumi finish.
