Onihiro is a young Japanese knife maker from Tosa in Kochi Prefecture. The smith is Masahiro Fujita, whose interest in traditional hand-forging began while he was a university student. At the age of 23 he entered the world of blacksmithing and trained at the Tosa Forged Blades School (Kajiya Soseijuku), graduating as part of its first class. The school is part of Tosa Uchi-hamono, the region’s traditional forging craft, which is known for its free forging technique.
Onihiro knives have a rustic character with a kurouchi finish and are made from steels such as Shirogami #1 (white carbon steel). They are valued for their good sharpness and affordable price. As they are made from carbon steel, they need care and should be dried after use.
