Mr. Haruma is sadly not with us any longer. He was born in 1941 and still forged knives by hand up until his very last days. The city of Sakai is one of the most prominent knife manufacturing cities and Mr. Haruma possessed enormous knowledge in the field. During our visit, he spoke with great passion about his art of blacksmithing, and you can clearly see that his passion for the craft never cooled, despite being active in the industry for more than 50 years. Haruma belongs to the old school. He was stubborn and determined that his style of forging was the right way to go. He forged knives from carbon steel, and above all; Single bevel knives in the carbon steel shirogami.
