Masashi Yamamoto is a perfectionist through and through. He leaves nothing to chance and is very meticulous with details. In his forge in the city of Sanjo, he works together with a couple of assistants who help with different parts of the production. We have met Masashi on several occasions and we feel very grateful to have been given a tour of his forge and shown how he sees the art of blacksmithing. Masashi is the nephew of Tsuneo Yoshida, who previously headed up manufacturing for Yoshikane. It was also here that Masashi began his career, but for many years has chosen to manufacture knives on his own. His production is relatively small and that's how he wants it to be. It gives him the opportunity to focus on what he is really passionate about, grinding! Masashi has an almost unhealthy interest in grinding and natural stones. If you've ever used one of his knives, you know how nicely it cuts through different foods. This is the result of countless tests to produce the right cut.
