shapu

Shāpu is a unique product that gives the market for semi-automated sharpening tools a real boost.

The patented design differs significantly from classic roll sharpeners, and the result is excellent. The difference is partly that Shapu uses flat rods that provide a significantly larger contact surface. In addition, these rods are flexible in two directions, which makes it very easy to maintain a consistent angle. The secret is that the rods (which are in a V-shape) are pressed apart the further down you go, and they also twist sideways if you twist the knife. In short, the rods follow the movement of the knife, and we at cleancut can testify that the system works very well.

Shapu sharpens and polishes the knife in two steps to optimal sharpness with the new patented sharpening technology SAF (Self Adjusting Function), which optimizes the sharpening effect and eliminates incorrect angle movement during sharpening. It sharpens and polishes both Japanese and European knives because the sharpening angle can be adjusted. First, the edge is sharpened at 30 or 40 degrees with diamond rods and then polished with finer ceramic.

1. Select angle (15+15 degrees or 20+20 degrees)

2. Guide the edge through the V-shape with diamond rods repeatedly. Shapu removes metal and helps you create a 'burr'.

3. Twist the rods to the ceramic and draw the edge through the groove with ceramic rods until the edge becomes very sharp.

When do we at cleancut consider Shapu a good buy?
We recommend this sharpener for those who have a standard European or Japanese knife. The edge is not excessively thin and fragile. You simply have a dull knife that you want to sharpen. Shapu delivers on this, and we have thoroughly tested the product ourselves to ensure it lives up to expectations.

When do we not recommend Shapu?
For those with a very thin and brittle edge, the diamond rods will be a coarse tool. The knife will, of course, become very sharp, but an extremely thin edge needs to be sharpened on a stone to maintain its thin edge.
